How to Read Your Assessment Notice

1. ROLL NUMBER
Used by the RM to identify each property.
2. ALTERNATE NUMBER
This is how SAMA identifies properties and can be used to search for properties on SAMAView.
3. PARCEL SIZE IN ACRES
4. PROPERTY CLASS
Each property class further broken down by assessment type (land or improvements).
5. ASSESSED VALUE
This is the value that SAMA has assessed each of your properties at.
6. PROPERTY CLASS %
This is the percentage of value set by the Provincial government; it is the percentage of your property value that is taxable.
7. TAXABLE ASSESSMENT
This is determined by multiplying your assessed value by the property class %.
8. ASSESSMENT EXEMPTIONS
If any of your property is exempt from taxes, it will appear in this column. The most common exemption is to have a residential improvement (house) partially or fully exempt. This happens when the occupier of the house own or rents land and the value of that land is used to exempt the house.
9. NET TAXABLE ASSESSMENT
This is your taxable assessment, less your exemptions, and the amount your taxes will be calculated on.
10. LAST YEARS TAXABLE ASSESSMENT
This column is what your taxable assessment was for each property in the previous year. Use this column to compare and see how much your assessment has changed.
11. FINAL DATE FOR APPEAL
If you think there is an error with your assessment, an appeal must be filed by this date.
